Capital Juniors

Capital Juniors is a competitive rowing program that develops middle and high school students’ discipline, fitness, camaraderie, and community stewardship.

Overview

By advancing the sport of rowing and providing comprehensive academic support, Capital Juniors Rowing empowers DC-area youth—especially those from wards 6, 7, and 8—to reach their full potential as athletes and students.

CRC’s Juniors coaches have a combined 100 years of rowing experience and have competed or coached athletes at the collegiate, national, and world levels.

To learn more about joining, read our parent/guardian handbook and email juniors_rep@capitalrowing.org with questions.

Capital Juniors Rowers:

  • Have a 100% graduation rate from high school and all rowers since 2010 have been accepted to college.

  • Regularly travel to compete throughout the Mid-Atlantic region and have won medals at multiple local and regional regattas.

  • Represent a wide demographic that brings together all eight DC wards and over 16 middle and high schools.

  • Have fun and make lifelong friends.

Interested students in grades 8-12 have the opportunity to join Capital Juniors twice a year, in January and August. We accept students from throughout the Washington, D.C. area, but we aim to recruit students from neighborhoods that are local to our boathouse (Wards 6, 7, and 8) in particular.

Fees vary per season and scholarships are available. Our goal is to make rowing accessible to everyone. Contact juniors_rep@capitalrowing.org for more information.

Capital Juniors
2026 Summer Learn-To-Row Camps

At camp, new rowers will learn the basics of the sweep rowing stroke by using a rowing machine on land, rowing in stable barges on the water, and practicing boat handling. The campers will get a tour of the boathouse, play games to practice teamwork, learn vocabulary, and get to know our youth volunteers who currently row on the Capital Juniors Team.

If the youth athlete goes to school in Wards 7 or 8 in Washington, DC, free registration is available for the camp. If your family is going through financial difficulty and you do not live in Wards 7 or 8, limited scholarships are available. Please email michelehill@capitalrowing.org if you need financial assistance.
