Capital,
The deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Abery, Breonna Taylor and so many others have continued a trend of pain and division in our country that has gone on for too long and can no longer go unchecked.
This racial injustice and lack of accountability are deeply concerning and have no place in our society. We at Capital stand in solidarity with the many peaceful demonstrators who are standing up for justice across our country and who demand that all people should be treated equally and feel safe.
To our current and future members and to our larger community: even though we are not currently together on the water we are committed to creating a more inclusive, respectful, and supportive environment. We will continue to strive to be an organization that helps to make our sport more inclusive and accessible to all people especially through the Capital Juniors, by continuing to offer scholarships and by actively engaging with local high schools. We’ll also do this through our Learn to Row program which introduces the sport to more than 100 people every year.
Today, we reaffirm our values and commitment to the community we serve. Now is the time to be present, listen, learn and participate. Bring your empathy. Bring your heart. Don’t shy away from uncomfortable conversations. Thank you for everything you do, things both big and small, to make our community better.
Respectfully,
Andy Rabus
President, Capital Rowing Club
